REC REPORT: Get Fit for Summer in Jeff

Summertime is here, and it’s the perfect time to head outdoors and have some fun! Outdoor activities are not only a fun way to shake up your workout routine, but studies show that spending time outside can reduce anxiety as well. Plus, with kids being out of school, it’s the perfect opportunity make fitness a family event.

If you dread time on the treadmill, try heading to your favorite park instead; the time will fly by as you enjoy the sights and sunshine! For a more challenging workout, grab your bike and check out the Big 4 Bridge. Biking is a great way to get your heart rate up and get a leg workout at the same time.

Gyms and weight rooms can be intimidating, but group fitness classes are a great way to ease into exercise. Having an instructor who can demonstrate correct form and posture will help you get the most out of your workout, and group classes are perfect for families and friends who are looking to sweat it out together. The Big 4 Station Park hosts three different group classes that are free of charge and appropriate for all levels of fitness! Try Zumba on Monday nights, Pound Fitness on Wednesday nights, and CrossFit on Saturday mornings.

Here in Southern Indiana, we know a thing or two about steaming hot summers. If you’re worried about the heat, try an aquatic workout! Swimming laps in the pool is a great way to squeeze in a cardio session and stay cool. It’s also a great way to get your kids off the couch! Check out the Jeffersonville Aquatic Center, which recently unveiled a new zero-depth pool to provide a safe play place for even the littlest member of your family.
